From May 14. 2014 CFL Draft was last night! After trading the 1st pick and the rights to center Marwan Hage to the Stampeders for all-star centre Jon Gott, the REDBLACKS traded quarterback Kevin Glenn to BC for the 5th pick overall. They then made another deal with the Alouettes to move up to the 4th pick where they selected Antoine Pruneau. For a report on the top 3 REDBLACKS picks from the 2014 CFL draft!

From April 16. REDBLACKS draft picks unsigned, chase NFL dream for now. Refer below page 2 for the report by Tim Baines in Ottawa.

From April 14. Ooch! Marwan Hage retires. This is bad new for the REDBLACKS as he was one of the key Expansion Draft picks. This is maybe the 1st reasonably big mistake by the REDBLACKS. Watch for REDBLACKS to now possibily draft Pierre Lavertu from Laval who it is believed could play now in the CFL at Center. A mate of mine here in Ottawa I'll call him Coach C, who is a successful and popular coach here has sent me his thoughts on the draft. Also below from Sat Dec 14 is his picks with his predicted protected players and a brief description. It's great reading.

"Myk Aussie well I like the pics. A lot were guys I debated on taking in the mock drafts. Hopkins and Fraser Pottinger were guys I picked. Liked the 2 import Rs, 3 Canadian FBs, Delahunt and Lavoie can fill Offensive roles but Green was a LB his first few years in league and was moved to FB because he is special teams guy.

The S played for Campbell in GGY and can fill role very well. Verdone was a stud in CIS yet to play much in CFL. The DL was what surprised me more. Hopkins is a good addition, Capicciotti is good young Canadian. Marshall and Evans - admittedly I don't know much about them. Williams I was on the fence about putting in as he has good skills but shocking to me that Shologan was left unprotected. (If anything, he could be trade bait to Edm or SSK for another player and picks).

Glenn honestly concerned about him, good QB - has experience and is one of my favourites, just he needs to have a strong supporting cast around him to be good. He has proven that in WPG, and Ham. DeMarco I think is a great pick up. Walker is a stud, great speed.

The OL was kinda disappointing as I didn't think they would go all young guys. Hage is awesome a good friend. Didn't think and have doubts he will leave Hamilton. Lee played in NFL, Eppele has been very inconsistent in his time in Toronto. Like JM Deane.. lots of talent. Kraunick...don't know a lot about him. I worked with Albright and messaged him when pick was announced. He is super jacked to get here. Great kid." Coach C.

From Sat Dec 14. A mate of mine here in Ottawa (Coach C) who is a successful and popular coach here has sent me his picks for the RedBlacks 2013 Expansion Draft. Predictions from CFL.ca columnists. I like Mark Stephen a lot as a longtime sports radio host in Calgary and as the Stampeders play by play commentator so I know his list is knowledgeable reading.

He agrees with my mate re QB. "Quarterback - Bo Levi Mitchell: His youth and productivity make him the QB of the future in Calgary. UNPROTECTED QBs: Kevin Glenn, Drew Tate." Mark Stephen

Alouettes thank Moton Hopkins

Montreal, December 16, 2013 - The Montreal Alouettes would like to thank defensive tackle Moton Hopkins for the hard work and dedication he displayed as a member of the Alouettes over the last three seasons. Hopkins was selected by the Ottawa REDBLACKS in today's CFL expansion draft.

"We thank Moton for his contributions to the Montreal Alouettes," said Alouettes General Manager and Head Coach Jim Popp.

"Moton is a true gentleman on and off the field. He plays hard and has a tremendous work ethic, making a remarkable comeback in 2013 after missing the entire 2012 season with a career-threatening blood clot. We wish him nothing but the best and hope to have him back in an Alouettes uniform in the future." Contact Charles Rooke

Alouettes thank Patrick Lavoie

Montreal, December 16, 2013 - The Montreal Alouettes would like to thank Patrick Lavoie for the hard work and dedication he displayed as a member of the Alouettes over the last two seasons. Lavoie was selected by the Ottawa REDBLACKS in today's CFL expansion draft.

"We thank Patrick Lavoie for his contributions on and off the field since his arrival with the Montreal Alouettes," said Alouettes General Manager and Head Coach Jim Popp. "He has been a great ambassador for our team and we hope to see him back in an Alouettes uniform in the future."

"This past year, Pat suffered an unfortunate off-season back injury that required surgery and limited his play in 2013. His role was reduced due to the injury and when he returned he suffered another injury setback to his hamstring," added Popp.

"We know Pat will continue to work hard at returning to the form and success that he had during his rookie season. We wish him nothing but the best in his future as a player and in the business world, once he has decided to call it a career."

"As it has happened with Pat, the expansion draft is a tricky commodity and we are not able to protect everyone. We have to look at our team now, the role of the player, and what the future holds at developing our team for the future." Contact Charles Rooke

I'm looking forward to hearing a longer interview. The coverage today on TSN 1200 was good but I wish there was more coverage in between the 3 Rd's of selections, they kept going back to Senators reports seeing it was a Sen's game day.
